I don't get it?

I've been meaning to post for 3 days, but I've been kinda lazy... anyway...

I went to acupuncture for the first time Friday afternoon. Acu M (the acupuncturist) had me lay on my stomach and stuck 8 needles in me. And then left the room... for what felt like forever. There was quiet music playing and I figured this was supposed to be the relaxation part, but the table I was on was uncomfortable and my face was sticking to the medical sterile paper I was laying on. Then Acu M comes back in the room, removes the needles in my back, has me flip over and sticks 13 needles in my abdomen and legs. And leaves again... for another endless period of time.

Finally, it was over. It was very stressful and not relaxing at all, because all I could think about was how much I was paying for 21 needles and a 40 minute time-out. I can lay on my own more comfy bed with the lights out and the phones off for 40 minutes for FREE!

Then as I'm paying he pulls out a tube of lotion for me and some herbs/vitamins for the hubs and tells me my grand total is $185. Ummmm, no! I told him no thanks and all I was paying for was the acupuncture ($90). Biggest waste of money ever. I guess maybe you have to buy into it for it to work, and I just didn't. Oh well. The hubs has told me that I can have a massage next week because that relaxes me, and is MUCH cheaper!

  1. Yea, that's pretty expensive. I actually enjoyed my acupuncture, I would fall asleep every time and I found that I slept better at night. But my acupuncture was $150 a month (8 visits), MUCH more reasonable than what your guy was charging!!

  2. wow, i'm so sorry you had a crappy experience! i've never been treated like that. definitely don't continue if you weren't able to relax. (that's why i stopped for a while - it wasn't relaxing for a period of time. but now it is again, for me.) get a massage instead! :)

  3. Ha! That is exactly why I still haven't tried acupuncture. I've read a million times over how much it helps, but I think you've got to buy into it to a certain extent, and I just can't get myself to! Enjoy your massage next week!

  4. I'm a little uncomfortable on the table at my acupuncturist too! It's like it's not wide enough and I end up laying on my thumbs so my arms don't fall off the table. It's hard to really get relaxed when you are not that comfortable. PLUS, I can hear people talking in the waiting room.

I personally don't like the needles in my fingers and ears. But, I guess I'll try anything at this point.

Luckily my appts are only $45/visit. I don't really know if it's doing anything but I'm just so desperate!!

  5. Ugh what a bummer of an experience! I've always loved acupuncture....well except for the time I went to a school to save money and I saw a different person every time and there were fluorescent lights in my eyes when I was on my back. NOT a good experience. Otherwise, I've always been rather sleepy afterward. However...massage does sound awesome!

  6. So did this guy not explain what the needles were for? WTH? My experience was that the accu placed each needle, told me what I would feel, and then told me exactly how long I would lay there and wait. I felt like instant relief when the needles were placed. And then afterwards, I was completely relaxed and went to sleep. That guy you saw sounds like a quack. Wow. Yeah, go for the massage for sure.

  7. I tried acu at the very beginning. I did not like it at all. I wrote all about my experience in a post: http://foxypopcorn.blogspot.com/2010/08/my-experience-with-acupuncture.html

I hated being left there alone in the room, and the lady made me feel like it was MY fault that I wasn't relaxed enough for us to get pregnant. She basically promised me that if I just kept coming to see her that we would conceive.

YEAH RIGHT! Little did she know. We got our Azoos diagnosis the nest month.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Massage, but won't ever be paying for acupuncture again.! Enjoy your massage!
