Since we've been handed lemons, though, we'll do the smart thing and make lemonade. Or these adorable lemon poppy seed cookies!
The hubs and I sat down this weekend to start hammering out the details of our trip. We'd researched and found that most of the museums are closed one weekday each week, usually a Monday or Tuesday. We wanted to make sure to make the most of our time, so we needed to map it out.
Here's what we came up with:
Day 1: Arrive at de Gaulle airport, take train to city center, then metro to hotel & check-in.
Then we're going to follow Fodor's advice and "tour like Parisians" - which means to just kind of wander around the city with no particular destination. We do plan on seeing the Eiffel Tower, a few of the jardins (gardens) that are free, and the Arc de Triumph as well as the Seine and strolling along the Champs d'Elysee.
Day 2: The Louvre! We have about 6 hours blocked off for this. And we plan on eating at the cafe there on the property.
Day 3: (the hubs is still sorting this out)
Day 4: Versailles - the palace! And Notre Dame in the afternoon.
Day 5: Musee d'Orsay, more jardins, and perhaps the catacombs if there's time. And to celebrate our 3rd anniversary, we're dining at one of the restaurants in the Eiffel Tower - 58 Tour Eiffel!
Day 6: breakfast at a local cafe and then metro, train, airport!
Jealous is the word! I've been to Paris and you will enjoy it - just enjoy your surroundings and press pause on the fertility button while your vacationing. Enjoy and do post some pics of your travels.
ReplyDeleteIt's been 10 years since I was in Paris, but we got some sort of museum/tourist pass there that let you in to a lot of the things. It only made sense if you were going to go to a certain number of them, which it sounds like you are. Might be something to look into!

Don't forget to do some shopping (or at least window shopping) on the Champs Elysee!
ReplyDeleteThe Louvre is like a city. Six hours is probably as much time as you could stand to spend in a museum, but to be totally honest it's only enough time to see the highlights, and/or one (maybe two) exhibits in completion. Good luck picking! We saw "Ancient Egypt", the Venus De Milo, and the Mona Lisa.

I am so jealous that you get to spend that many days in Paris. We were there a few years ago as part of a tour, and only had a day and a half there. Of course our free day was Tuesday, which is when the museums are closed. So we only had 2 hours at the Louvre! We barely saw anything. Mona Lisa was cool, but much cooler was the Judgement Day painting which is just across form Mona Lisa.
ReplyDeleteBe prepared for the amount of smoking the Europeans do, and in very close proximity too. We had lunch at a cafe, and we sat 6 inches from a guy that was smoking like a chimney! I'd pack some Febreeze with if I were you.
So jealous you get to see so many places. You will have a blast!
