Naive, stupid comments

I know that I have made the decision not to share the news of our latest diagnosis possible. So, therefore, I try to remind myself of that when people make really stupid and insensitive comments about my lack of fertility.

"You need to just get drunk one night & have sex."

"It'll happen when you least expect it!"

"I promise you'll have a child someday soon."

That last one is my favorite. People constantly promising me that I'll have a child someday and most even promise it will be soon.

I finally snapped this weekend, when a former infertile (my friend's mother who struggled for 4 years) and someone who should know better, promised me I'd have child.

"How do you know that?!? How can *you* seriously stand there and promise me a child. You don't know that. I appreciate the intent, but you can not possibly tell me that I'll ever have a child."

And yes, I really did say that to the mother of the bride in the lobby of a nice hotel here in town this past Saturday. She looked a little taken aback, but I am terribly tired of her thinking that just because she managed to have children after infertility, that obviously everyone can be "cured."

  1. It is most frustrating when these comments come from people who really should know how hurtful they are. It hurts when others say these comments as well, but for me it's easier to brush off since they don't know any better.

  2. Amen, sister. My MIL, who knows all about our MF diagnosis, persists in saying stuff like that. It's so stupid.

Looking forward to following your journey. Love your header image!
